What is Geocaching?

"Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache."

Why Geocaching?

It's been a long time since I last spent much of my time hiking in the woods.  I even spent some time orienteering as a kid.  Eventually, my summers were spent boating on the ocean and later at work.

Now that I live in the Seattle area I realized that I had a perfect opportunity to enjoy some of the best outdoor trails in the world. Why hadn't I ventured out before?  I've become a couch potato techie, that's why.

I heard about Geocaching and thought it was an interesting idea.  My wife felt it might be a good excuse to get me out of the house more often so she bought me a GPS for Christmas.  Once the weather warmed up I was out the door and haven't stopped yet.

If you need some exercise, something to beat cabin fever, a way to spend time with your spouse and kids, or even a virtual guide for a tour of your new hometown, this is a wonderful game for you.

See you outside!

Find one of these?

Yup, I probably left it somewhere.

I've got about 4 dozen smiley superballs to pass around.  Look for them in a cache near you!
